IN RESPONSE, PLEASE REFER TO: M120222B March 5, 2012 MEMORANDUM TO:
R. W. Borchardt Executive Director for Operations FROM:
Annette Vietti-Cook, Secretary
/RA/
SUBJECT:
STAFF REQUIREMENTS - BRIEFING ON FORT CALHOUN STATION, 9:00 A.M., WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 22, 2012, COMMISSIONERS CONFERENCE ROOM, ONE WHITE FLINT NORTH, ROCKVILLE, MARYLAND (OPEN TO PUBLIC ATTENDANCE)
The Commission was briefed by the NRC staff and representatives of the Omaha Public Power District (OPPD) on plans for addressing performance deficiencies at Fort Calhoun Station.
OPPD was represented by W. Gary Gates, Chief Executive Officer and President; David Bannister, Vice President and Chief Nuclear Officer; and John Herman, Division Manager -
Nuclear Engineering.
The staff should inform the Commission whether the June, 7, 2011, fire in a safety-related bus at Fort Calhoun Station is being reviewed under the Accident Sequence Precursor (ASP)
Program, and if so, provide the schedule for completing the review. Given the length of time since this event occurred, the staff should inform the Commission how it has improved ASP analysis timeliness in accordance with item #15 of SRM SECY-11-0027 Report to Congress on Abnormal Occurrences Fiscal Year 2010.
