Dear Chairman Jaczko:

In advance of the forthcoming meeting between the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) and Florida Power & Light (FPL), I would like to reaffirm the enormity that Turkey Point Nuclear Plant is fully prepared to withstand, and respond to, any possible disaster. The apparent safety violations at Turkey Point, thankfully only classified as "low to moderate" in risk, are still cause for concern to many in our South Florida community.

Last year's tragic Fukushima Daiichi disaster was a critical reminder of the potentially catastrophic consequences of an incident at a nuclear power plant. The Fukushima disaster prompted me, and other members of our South Florida Congressional Delegation, to make a site visit to the Turkey Point Nuclear Power Plant to receive a briefing on plant operations and safety mechanisms. This opportunity included a demonstration of the plant's control room simulator where employees train to respond to catastrophic events. It is my understanding that the reported safety violations were part of the onsite emergency response facility and would have left the facility unusable had an emergency occurred. In my visit Turkey Point, each and every staffer and technician demonstrated that they were committed to ensuring the safe operation of the plant and I am confident that the NRC can work together with FPL to review these recent safety breaches and ensure that they are not repeated.

The safety of our families is my number one priority. I look forward to continued dialogue with all parties involved with the safe operation of the Turkey Point Nuclear Power Plant. Thank you for your time and attention to this important matter.
