- 1. ORISE will prepare and submit a plan to conduct a confirmatory final status survey of the site. One site survey visits is anticipated. ORISE will be expected to review the licensee's Final Status Survey Reports, If available, prior to conducting the confirmatory survey. The expected time to conduct the survey is 1 day.
The survey should include: gamma radiation measurements to identify hot spots (no acceptance criteria);
surface scans at selected locations (ventilation system, drain pipes, sink, reactor core, anywhere radioactivity could be); fixed point measurements at random & biased locations; swipe samples for gamma emitting radionuclides and tritium; reanalyze some of the core samples previously collected by the licensee if available,; and analyze soil samples from the area adjacent to the reactor core.
Review FSS package(s) for completeness.
- 2. Develop a cost estimate to conduct the above. The estimate will include resources to perform all of the above, including travel expenses, shipping costs: submittal of draft and final reports (one each) listing Issues and recommendations identified by ORISE; sample analytical costs; and technical support to NRC staff questions by telephone and e-mails. ORISE will submit a cost estimate and schedule within two weeks of receipt of this RFTA.
- 3. For scheduling, the licensee currently anticipates conducting their FSS in August 2011 and submitting the report to the NRC in October 2011. ORISE should contact the NRC (Mr. John Hickman) for updated schedule information as it becomes available.

ORISE SCHEDULE - Confirmatory Survey Activities of the University of Arizona Research Reactor RFTA 11-017 Survey Plan - Draft due to the NRC for review & comment August 22, 2011.
Final due to the NRC August 26, 2011.
Site Visit Tentatively scheduled for the week of September 6, 2011. ORISE will travel to Tucson on September 61h and report to the site on the 7th & 8Lh then return on the 9h.
Draft Report Within 14 days of receiving final laboratory data on all confirmatory samples.
Final Report Within 2 weeks of receiving NRC's comments on the draft report.
