Tennessee Valley Authority, Post Office Box 2000, Soddy Daisy, Tennessee 37384-2000 January 19, 2012 Dr. Richard Urban State of Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation Chattanooga Environmental Field Office Division of Water Pollution Control State Office Building, Suite 550 540 McCallie Avenue Chattanooga, Tennessee 37402-2013
Dear Dr. Urban:
SEQUOYAH NUCLEAR PLANT - SEWAGE MANAGEMENT DURING STEAM GENERATOR REPLACEMENT ACTIVITIES TVA will replace the Sequoyah Nuclear Plant Unit 2 four steam generators during the scheduled October 2012 refueling outage. Replacement of the four Unit 2 steam generators is a large maintenance project. In order to support maintenance activities leading up to and during the Sequoyah steam generator replacement outage additional support personnel will be brought on site.
Sequoyah will be using two supplemental restroom facilities during this time for the additional support personnel. Each supplemental restroom facility will be equipped with two, 1,600 gallon collection tanks. TVA will pump these tanks as necessary using a contract waste pumper ("Honey Wagon") and discharge the wastewater into the Soddy Daisy Lift Station (SDLS) located on site at Sequoyah.
TVA has obtained verbal concurrence from Cleveland Grimes, Executive Director of Hamilton County Waste Water Treatment Authority (WWTA), on January 11,- 2012 to dispose of the sanitary wastewater at the SDLS utilizing current procedures in coordination with Hamilton County WWTA personnel.
If you have any questions or need additional information, please contact Brad Love at (423) 843-6714 or by e-mail at bmlove@tva.gov of Sequoyah's Environmental Staff.
