DRAFT LICENSE RENEWAL INTERIM STAFF GUIDANCE LR-ISG-2011-04: UPDATED AGING MANAGEMENT CRITERIA FOR PWR REACTOR VESSEL INTERNAL COMPONENTS
Dear Ms. Keys:
I am writing to inform the Nuclear Energy Institute of the opportunity to comment on the draft license renewal interim staff guidance (LR-ISG), LR-ISG-2011-04, Updated Aging Management Criteria for PWR Reactor Vessel Internal Components. Enclosed is a copy of the Federal Register notice that announces the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commissions (NRCs) request for comments and provides instructions on how to submit comments.
The NRC staff has developed a draft interim staff guidance (ISG) that will be used to update the aging management guidance for pressurized-water reactor (PWR) reactor vessel internal components in NUREG-1801, Revision 2, Generic Aging Lessons Learned Report (GALL),
and in NUREG-1800, Revision 2, Standard Review Plan for License Renewal Applications for Nuclear Power Plants (SRP-LR). The guidance documents proposed changes in the draft ISG are based on the conclusions of the NRCs revised safety evaluation (SE) dated December 16, 2011. The SE is the staffs review of the Electric Power Research Institutes Materials Reliability Program: Pressurized Water Reactor Internals Inspection and Evaluation Guidelines (MRP-227-Rev. 0).
To inform other stakeholders of the opportunity to provide comments on the draft LR-ISG-2011-04, courtesy copies of this letter are being sent to subscribers of an NRC electronic mailing list on general license renewal topics.
