- STATUS OF NRCS RESTART REVIEW AND INSPECTION - NORTH ANNA POWER STATION, DOCKET NOS. 50-338 AND 50-339

Dear Mr. Heacock:

This letter refers to the Category 1 public meeting which was conducted at the Louisa County Middle School in Mineral, Virginia on November 1, 2011. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss the status of the NRCs restart review and inspection of North Anna Nuclear Power Station following the earthquake on August 23, 2011. A list of the attendees is enclosed.

At the meeting, you discussed the effect the earthquake had on the North Anna Power Station.

Then you summarized the inspections which have been performed, and the short term and long term actions you have planned. You stated that, as a result of your inspections, you have determined that the plant is safe to operate. Your presentation slides are available in the NRC's Agencywide Document Access and Management System Accession (ADAMS) Accession No. ML11305A062.

At the meeting, the NRC discussed the agencys inspection efforts to date and the status of the agencys review of your evaluation. The NRC stated that the inspection is still in progress and the NRC Team has not identified any damage to safety related equipment from the seismic event. The NRC will continue the safety reviews as part of the restart decision making process and will ensure that VEPCO has demonstrated the plant is safe to operate before approving restart. The NRCs presentation slides are available in the NRC's ADAMS Accession No. ML11305A045.

After the NRCs discussion, the agency addressed questions from the members of the public who attended the meeting. A detailed transcript of NRCs presentation, licensees presentation and discussions with members of public at the meeting was made and is available in the NRC's ADAMS Accession No. ML11312A233.

In accordance with 10 CFR 2.390 of the NRC's "Rules of Practice," a copy of this letter and its enclosure will be available electronically for public inspection in the NRC Public Document Room (PDR) or from the Publicly Available Records (PARS) component of NRC's ADAMS.
