RE: QUERY - regarding Software Evaluaton Report review for GGNS PRNMS
- Alan, The acronym SIL was incorrectly defined as Service Information Letter and should have been Software Integrity Level, as Bernie notes in his e-mail. I can include a correction in the letter that will submit the V&V summary report, if youd like. Please let me know.
Regarding NEDC-33688P, Ive attached a copy that should searchable and allow cutting and pasting text. Let me know if it doesnt work.
Thanks!

FW: QUERY - regarding Software Evaluaton Report review for GGNS PRNMS Guy, As discussed. Alan
- Alan,
- 1. Can you ask the licensee what defines Services Information Letter (SIL)
Level?
I know of no regulatory basis that defines this terminology, could not find it defined in the report, and continue to understand that that SIL is Software Integrity Level with respect to the subject under discussion.
To ensure that the licensee and the staff are working with the same definition of terms regarding the expectation of the report, it is important to have a common understanding of SIL. This is not currently the case, as the licensee report states:
The scope of this analysis is limited to software assessed at Services Information Letter (SIL)
Level 3 and 4.
(see last sentence in first paragraph of Section 1.2 Scope.
Upon searching the internet Service Information Letters seem to be sent out as part of FAA rules to address safety issues or advice users of maintenance activities. Other than that, I could not determine what Services Information Letter means. Perhaps, the information technology and cyber-security people use this term; however, I have not been able to confirm that.
- 2. If Services Information Letter is a typo, then can you have the licensee correct it via supplement?
Otherwise, please ask them to supplement to explain what the scope definition actually means.
- 3. I cannot seem to search the PDF files nor can I copy/paste from it. Could you ask the licensee to provide a less protected version in order to facilitate the review process.
- Thanks,
-Bernie
