Plant Issues Tracking Application (PITA) Entries 9/30/11 Entry:

Sept. 29, 1740, the licensee made a notification to the HOO (Event Number 47305)in accordance with 50.72(b)(2)(xi) - OFFSITE NOTIFICATION following notification to the Georgia DNR of tritium levels above background at onsite sample points. On Sept. 28, 2011, results from routine monitoring of groundwater indicated tritium above historical background levels at two sample points on site. Tritium concentrations up to 5.34 million picocuries per liter were observed. The area the tritium was discovered is in the vicinity of the Unit 1 CST. The licensee plans to commence excavation today to locate the source of the tritium. Additional samples have been taken and no tritium levels above background have been detected or migrated outside the area where the two sample points are located.

10/3/11 & 10/4/11 Entry:

Sept. 29, 1740: The licensee made a notification to the HOO (Event Number 47305)in accordance with 50.72(b)(2)(xi) - OFFSITE NOTIFICATION following notification to the Georgia DNR of tritium levels above background at onsite sample points. Additional samples have been taken and no tritium levels above background have been detected or migrated outside the area where the two sample points are located.

10/3 UPDATE: Excavation to locate the source of the tritium has proceeded through the weekend. Testing is in progress to determine the leak source.

10/5/11 Entry:

10/5 UPDATE: Two areas are excavated to gain access to pipes near the Unit 1 CST and Unit 1 reactor building. Guided wave scan and pipe pressure tests are being accomplished to aid in locating a pipe leak.

10/6/11 Entry:

10/6 UPDATE: Pressure tests have confirmed leakage on a suspected line identified by guided wave scan. Additional pressure tests are scheduled today to ensure no additional leak sources.

Identified leaking line will be abandoned in place and a new line installed above ground.

10/11/11 Entry:

10/11 UPDATE: The licensee identified no additional leaks. Identified leaking line will be abandoned in place and a new line installed above ground.
