Pre-Application Meeting for Monticello Fuel Storage Criticality Safety Analysis License Amendment Request Glenn:

Per your request, I have opened new TAC number ME7372, MONTICELLO - Pre-application review - Fuel Storage Criticality Analysis. At this time I envision that the pre-application matters will be handled the same way as the pre-application matters for Prairie Island (TAC ME5043 and ME5044).

Please canvass your participants and propose 2 or 3 date/time options for the January 2012 meeting. As I discussed with you, such a meeting can take the form of face-to-face, videoconference, or phone conference; the choice is yours.

Pre-Application Meeting for Monticello Fuel Storage Criticality Safety Analysis License Amendment Request

Peter, Thank you for speaking with me today.

I am the licensing lead for a Monticello Fuel Storage Criticality Safety Analysis (CSA) License Amendment Request (LAR). This LAR would revise the CSA to use Areva methodology for the Spent Fuel Pool and New Fuel Vault, and it would incorporate the proposed new fuel type (Areva ATRIUM 10XM). Our initial target for submitting this LAR is September 2012.

As discussed, we believe that a Pre-Application Meeting would be helpful, and would like to start working with you to plan for the appropriate attendance, format, and time. As a starting point, we would suggest targeting the second week in January 2012 for the meeting. To give you some idea for the type of meeting we might expect, I have attached information from the Prairie Island meeting that we had last year.

I will contact you next week to discuss this further, after both of us have given it some thought. We look forward to working with you on this project.
