Northern States Power Company 414 Nicollet Mail Minneapolis, Minnesota 55401 Telephone (612) 330-5500 July 29, 1983 Director Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation U S Nuclear Regulatory Commission Washington, DC 20555 MONTICELLO NUCLEAR GENERATING PLANT Docket No. 50-263 License No. DPR-22 Program for Replacement of Reactor Recirculation System Piping Amendment Number 14 to the Monticello Operating License dated December 10, 1982 requires that Northern States Power Company submit, prior to August 1, 1983, a program for inspection and/or modification of the reactor recirculation system piping at the Monticello Nuclear Generating Plant.
The purpose of this letter is to transmit, for the Commission's review and approval, a description of our modification program as required by Amendment 14.
We are currently working with our Project Manager in the Division of Licensing to schedule a meeting with the NRC Staff to discuss the attached report and answer any questions related to our program.
The modifications described in the attached report will be completed prior to plant startup for cycle 11.
As noted in our report, the recirculation loop cross tie line will be removed as part of this project.
Proposed Technical Specification changes reflecting the removal of this line will be submitted prior to October 1, 1983.
