FW: Restriction Regarding TPBARs Implementation at Sequoyah Nuclear Plant, Units 1 and 2

Siva, Based your discussion with Dan Green of my staff, the following information regarding implementation of tritium-producing burnable absorber rods (TPBARs) at the Sequoyah Nuclear Plant is provided. Should you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me at 423-751-3628.

Rod Krich Vice President Nuclear Licensing Sequoyah Nuclear Plant (SQN), Units 1 and 2, both have license conditions, provided with the issuance of Amendments 278 and 289 (for Unit 1) and Amendments 269 and 279 (for Unit 2), that state This license amendment is effective as of the date of its issuance, and shall be implemented prior to starting up from the outage where TVA inserts tritium-producing burnable absorber rods in the core, provided there have been no changes to the facility that materially change the bases for approval of the [this] amendment. Since the issuance of these amendments, changes have been made at SQN, Units 1 and 2, that materially change the bases for NRC approval of Amendments 278, 269, 289, and 279. As a result, in accordance with these license conditions, TVA understands that it would need to request and receive NRC approval prior to introducing any tritium-producing burnable absorber rods (TPBARs) into either SQN unit.
