RE: T&E table - Salem/HCGS It's the state status rankings determined by each individual state's Natural Heritage Program, and NatureServe then consolidates all of the information from each state into one list.

The NJ website w/ the list cites their regs re: the list.

RE: T&E table - Salem/HCGS Thanks Rich. We'll check out this approach. First, please confirm that the S1, S2, and S3 rankings you're referring to are the state status rankings applied by NatureServe (critically imperiled, imperiled, vulnerable)?

Steve:

See if we can reduce the size of the species table list from the 130+ on there now by Cross-checking T & E spp with S1, S2 & S3 ranking from the spp list found at the attached website:

httwr):www.state.ni. us/deD/rarksandforests/natural/heritaae/ian21 O*Dlantlist. odf The definitions of S rankings are found at the following website:

1

0 http://www.state.ni.us/dep/parksandforests/natural/heritaqe/spplant apl.html The main webpage for the two links above is:

http://www.state.ni.us/dep/parksandforests/natural/heritage/spplant.html Knock off any species that are S3 or"lower".

Extirpated species should stay on the list.

What we're trying to do is see which spp that, although they are listed as T or E, they may not be imperiled (S1 or S2), but "only" rare (S3) or at even less risk.

A random sampling of 10 critters from our table led to two S3 designations - don't know if that 20% will work across the entire range of species (A quick perusal says probably not).

All aquatic spp can remain.

We will want to include the S1 & S2 rankings on the table if many S3's can be knocked off.

Attached is a file with excerpts from the Cooper SEIS table to use as an example.

Cooper was MO & NE, so we do not need the state ID'er in the table.

Please take a look and see how many spp will get knocked off, and if it is worth or while to include S designations.

Thanks, Rich
