The information is as initially received without verification or evaluation, and is basically all that is known by the Region IV staff on this date.

ALERT DECLARED AT CALLAWAY PLANT DESCRIPTION:
Plant operators declared an ALERT at the Callaway Plant near Fulton, Missouri, at 10:56 a.m.
CDT, on September 18, 2011, as a result of a Freon gas leak from one of the site air conditioning units for the main control room. The leaking Freon gas temporarily prohibited safe personnel entry into a room containing essential electrical equipment. Cooling for the main control room was maintained by the redundant air conditioning unit.
At 5:37 p.m. CDT on September 18, 2011, after the room was confirmed accessible for plant operators, the licensee exited the ALERT.
The State of Missouri has been informed. This information has been discussed with licensee management and is current as of 8:30 a.m. CDT.
The plant continued to operate at 100% power throughout the event and there were no radiological releases due to this event. The resident inspector responded to the site to monitor site activities during the event.
