Biological Assessment for Salem and Hope Creek
- Steve, I just talked to Julie Crocker of NMFS to help clarify the response we got from Mary Colligan of NMFS (April 15, 2009) about endangered species at Salem and hope Creek Generating Stations. Our interpretation has been that although the latter stated that NMFS expected a reinitiation of a section 7 consultation for sea turtles and shortnose sturgeon, the conclusion did not follow from the preceding information in the letter and no reinitiation would be needed. It seemed like a "typo" had been made.
Julie indicated that NMFS did expect a reinitiation, however. This means that we will have to prepare a biological assessment for sea turtles and shortnose sturgeon for Salem. Hope Creek has never had a turtle of sturgeon take to my knowledge, and so no consultation should be needed.
We can talk about this at you convenience.
