7008-1 NEI The proposed revision endorses the methods and procedures developed by the Standards Committee on Packaging and Transportation of Radioactive and Nonnuclear Hazardous Materials, N14, Subcommittee of the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) in ANSI N14.5-1997. However, this standard is in the process of being superseded by ANSI N14.5-2009, which we understand will be issued within the next few months. Industry believes the most efficient approach would be to endorse ANSI N14.5-2009 once it is available, rather than issue a new Regulatory Guide endorsing the 1997 version of the standard.
No change made. Endorsement of ANSI N14.5-2009 is not possible because the standard does not exist.
The most current standard is proposed ANSI N14.5-2008 which is a revalidation of ANSI N14.5-1997 and this planned revision to RG 7.4 endorses ANSI N14.5-1997.
In May 2011, the ANSI N14.5-2008 revalidation was re-balloted and it may be published sometime in 2012. Meanwhile, the ANSI N14.5-2011 standard that the ANSI writing group has been working on since late 2008 went out for comments in September 2011 and has not yet been finalized.
