- 6. Letter from TVA to NRC, "Application for Temporary Change to Technical Specifications to Allow Use of Penetrations in Shield Building Dome During Modes 1 through 4; and Request for Specific Usage of Alternate Source Term Methodology for Calculating Radiation Doses Associated with the Proposed Temporary Change to Technical Specifications (TS-SQN-2011-03)," dated August 31, 2011 The purpose of this letter is to notify the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) of a change in the submittal schedule for a License Amendment Request (LAR) supporting the Sequoyah Nuclear Plant (SQN), Unit 2, Steam Generator Replacement Project.
The Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) plans to replace the SQN, Unit 2, steam generators in the Cycle 18 Refueling Outage, scheduled to start in the fall of 2012.
By letters dated April 29, 2011 (Reference 1), May 31, 2011 (Reference 2), June 30, 2011 (Reference 3), and August 1, 2011 (Reference 5), TVA provided submittal schedules for LARs supporting the SQN, Unit 2, Steam Generator Replacement Project. By letter dated July 15, 2011 (Reference 4), the LAR to revise steam generator inspection requirements was submitted. The submittal of this LAR met the submittal date specified in the TVA letter dated June 30, 2011 (Reference 3), i.e., by September 30, 2011. By letter dated August 31, 2011 (Reference 6), the LAR for one-time use for two 18-inch hatches in the shield building roof is submitted. The submittal of this LAR meets the submittal date specified in the TVA letter dated August 1, 2011 (Reference 5), i.e., by August 31, 2011. The schedule for submittal of the remaining LAR is as follows.
The request for a one-time use for movements of heavy loads, previously scheduled to be submitted by August 31, 2011, is now scheduled to be submitted by October 14, 2011. As a result of TVA reviews of this LAR, some technical issues have been identified that must be fully resolved before this LAR can be submitted.
The submittal schedule for this LAR supports a one year NRC review time prior to the requested approval date.
U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Page 3 August 31, 2011 There are no regulatory commitments associated with this submittal. Should you have any questions, please contact Dan Green at (423) 751-8423.
