Date of Site Visit: January 20, 2010

Trip Summary: The Sandia team met with NRC on the morning of January 20,2010 and traveled to Indian Point together, The team signed in, obtained badges, and met with Indian Point staff for an initial briefing and discussion of the days activities. The team, together with Indian Point staff/escorts, received hard hats, gloves, ear and eye protection and proceeded to the reactor facilities. The tour included non-radiological areas only and no dosimetry was required. Major onsite buildings and structures (e.g., reactor, auxiliary, turbine, and emergency diesel generator buildings), were visited to observe postulated fission product release locations and obtain site information. The visit also included the onsite meteorological tower.

After visiting the reactor facilities, NRC and Sandia together drove the area around the plant to observe first hand the site topography (onsite and surrounding area) and site characteristics. This tour included driving many of the major evacuation routes within the emergency planning zone (EPZ).
