Dear Mr. Marion:
On behalf of the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC), I would like to provide your organization with our recent revision of Protecting Our Nation (NUREG/BR-0314, Rev 2).
Protecting Our Nation describes the planned and progressive approach the NRC uses to regulate security programs for the Nations nuclear facilities and radioactive materials. This document is widely disseminated to policymakers, external stakeholders, NRC staff, and the general public.
Protecting Our Nation was originally published in September 2004 to inform the public of the NRCs security-related activities following the attacks of September 11, 2001. It was revised in 2009 to include the many additional activities the NRC had undertaken to improve security since original publication. The 2011 revision is the second update to the document, which is now updated biennially. The document was created by staff in the Office of Nuclear Security and Incident Response and incorporated input from across the NRC.
It is important that the NRC continues to communicate to the public the many actions that have been taken to improve security. Publishing Protecting Our Nation supports the agencys commitment to openness by providing accurate and timely information to the public.
