SUMMARY

OF CONFERENCE CALL HELD ON JUNE 9, 2011, BETWEEN THE U.S. NUCLEAR REGULATORY COMMISSION AND ENTERGY NUCLEAR OPERATIONS, INC., CONCERNING INSPECTION OF SMALL BORE PIPING, STEAM GENERATOR COMPONENTS, AND THE NON-EQ INACCESSIBLE MEDIUM-VOLTAGE CABLE PROGRAM Representatives of the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC or the staff), and representatives of Entergy Nuclear Operations, Inc., (Entergy or the applicant), held a conference call on June 9, 2011, to discuss the applicants methodology for the inspection of small bore piping and steam generator components, and the proposed (UFSAR) .

The main issues discussed during the teleconference are summarized below.

1. Inspection of small bore piping:

The staff required clarification of the applicants letter dated March 28, 2011, in response to requests for additional information (RAIs) 3.0.3.1.10-1 and 3.0.3.1.10-2. The staff requested clarification of the number of socket welds that will be inspected in 2012 for Indian Point Unit 2 (IP-2). The March 28, 2011, letter did not clearly identify the number of samples planned for each 10-year interval. On page 15 of 27 in Attachment 1 of the March 28, 2011, letter, Entergy states that at least 10 welds will be inspected. On page 16 of 27 in Attachment 1 of the March 28, 2011, letter, Entergy states that 10 welds will be inspected. The staff sought clarification if there will be 10 welds inspected, or possibly more than 10 welds will be inspected.

The staff also sought clarification on how the number of socket welds that will be inspected for IP-2 during the period of extended operation was determined. The staff sought clarification on how 10 welds per interval ensured the integrity of the components.

In response to the staffs questions, the applicant indicated that it would review its proposed aging management of socket welds for IP-2 and provide clarification as necessary.

2. Inspection of steam generator components:

By letter dated March 28, 2011, the applicant provided Commitment 41 related to the aging management of steam generator divider plates. The staff requested clarification of why the commitment only related to inspection of the welds and did not include inspection of the base metal. The applicant stated that the weld areas were most likely to experience age related degradation. The staff stated that international experience showed cracking in the

Entergy Nuclear Operations, Inc base metal. The applicant said it would review the commitment and revise the commitment as necessary.

The NRC also questioned the inspection timing for the two IP units. The staff questioned why the inspections were planned so that Unit 2 steam generator would be inspected with less than 20 years of service and Unit 3 steam generator with greater than 30 years of service. The staff also questioned the applicant on why the timing in Commitments 41 and 42 did not appear to align with the response to RAIs 3.1.2.2.13 and 3.1.2.2.16-1. The applicant stated that it planned the inspections for the first available outages in the respective periods of extended operation. The applicant also stated that it would review the RAI response and commitments and correct any discrepancies.

3. Non-EQ Inaccessible Medium-Voltage Cable Program:

The applicants letter dated March 28, 2011, included a revision to the planned UFSAR supplement for IP-2 to revise the Medium Voltage Cable Program description. However, a similar UFSAR revision was not provided for IP-3. The staff questioned the applicant on why the planned UFSAR revision was not provided for IP-3. The applicant stated that they would provide the UFSAR revision for IP-3 in its next correspondence.

The applicant had an opportunity to comment on this summary.
