Docket No. 50-293-LR; ASLBP No. 06-848-02-LR

Dear Administrative Judges:

The purpose of this letter is to inform you that the staff of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (staff) has issued Supplement 2 to the Safety Evaluation Report (SER) for the license renewal application for Pilgrim Nuclear Power Station (Pilgrim) as filed by Entergy Nuclear Operations, Inc. (the applicant). Supplement 2 to the Pilgrim SER can be found in the Agencywide Document Management System (ADAMS) via Accession No. ML11147A034.

The staff issued an SER regarding the Pilgrim license renewal application in June 2007.

That SER summarized the results of the staffs safety review of the renewal application for compliance with the requirements of Title 10, Part 54 of the Code of Federal Regulations (10 CFR Part 54), Requirements for Renewal of Operating Licenses for Nuclear Power Plants.

The staff issued Supplement 1 to the SER in September 2007, which documented the safety review results of the applicants program to deal with the effects of reactor water environments on the fatigue life of reactor components. In November 2007, the staff issued NUREG-1891, Safety Evaluation Report Related to the License Renewal of Pilgrim Nuclear Power Station, which included both the June 2007 SER and Supplement 1.

This SER, Supplement 2, documents the staffs review of information provided by the applicant since the issuance of NUREG-1891. This information includes annual updates required by 10 CFR 54.21(b) and updated information and commitments in response to recent industry operating experience.
