PSEG Nuclear LLC.- Hope Creek Generating Station NJDEP Case No. 11-06-05-1214-35 Operator #25 Courtesy Report
Dear Sir/Madam:
PSEG Nuclear LLC (PSEG) is submitting this report to provide additional documentation of the courtesy notification of, what at the time, was believed to be a discharge of 1,000 gallons of sewage into the site storm drainage system.
The discharge was reported to the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP) hotline at 1214 hours0.0141 days
0.337 hours
0.00201 weeks
4.61927e-4 months
on June 5, 2011 and assigned Case No. 11-06-05-1214-35 by Operator #25. This discharge was also reported to the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) in accordance with the Station's NRC license.
On June 5, 2011 at approximately 1202, a sewage spill was identified at the sewage treatment plant (STP). It was initially reported that approximately 1,000 gallons had spilled to the ground and entered the storm drain. We have determined that the spill was not reportable as it was considerably smaller than originally believed (final estimate was approximately 25 gallons that entered the on-site storm drainage system). There was no discharge to the Delaware River.
The appropriate on-site storm drains were plugged and the area was completely cleaned up by 1830; within 24 hours2.777778e-4 days
0.00667 hours
3.968254e-5 weeks
9.132e-6 months
of identification and therefore this was a non-reportable spill.
The NJDEP notification was updated later that the same day (06/05/11), that PSEG was retracting the original spill report because the spill was cleaned up within 24 hours2.777778e-4 days
0.00667 hours
3.968254e-5 weeks
9.132e-6 months
of identification and that there was no discharge to the Delaware River, and therefore this was a non-reportable spill.
