Subject:

Revision to Expected Submittal Dates for Sequoyah Nuclear Plant License Renewal Applications

References:

1. Letter from TVA to NRC, "Expected Submittal Dates for Sequoyah Nuclear Plant License Renewal Applications," dated August 5, 2009
2. NRC Regulatory Issue Summary 2009-06, "Importance of Giving NRC Advance Notice of Intent to Pursue License Renewal," dated June 15, 2009 The purpose of this letter is to notify Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) of a revision to the expected submittal dates for the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) license renewal applications for both Sequoyah Nuclear Plant (SQN) units. The SQN, Unit 1, and SQN, Unit 2, licenses will expire in 2020 and 2021, respectively. The Reference 1 letter provided expected submittal dates in the second calendar quarter of 2013 for the SQN, Units 1 and 2, license renewal applications. Based on a May 17, 2011, telephone conference call between NRC and TVA representatives, the SQN, Units 1 and 2, license renewal applications are expected to be submitted in the first calendar quarter of 2013.

While this is a target date for the Sequoyah Nuclear Plant submittal, TVA notes that the final submittal date is contingent on a favorable decision by the TVA Board. This decision will be made once the required agency reviews are conducted in accordance with the National Environmental Policy Act. The TVA Board is expected to consider this matter later this calendar year.

TVA will keep the NRC informed of any changes to these expected submittal dates.

Please address any questions regarding this matter to Dan Green at 423-751-8423.

Respectfully, R. M. Krich cc:
