RESPONSE TO THE ADVISORY COMMITTEE ON REACTOR SAFEGUARDS REPORT ON THE SAFETY ASPECTS OF THE LICENSE RENEWAL APPLICATION FOR THE HOPE CREEK GENERATING STATION
Dear Dr. Abdel-Khalik:
During the 584th meeting of the Advisory Committee on Reactor Safeguards (the Committee),
held during June 8-10, 2011, the Committee completed its review of the license renewal application for the Hope Creek Generating Station and the associated final safety evaluation report prepared by the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC). In the Committees final report, dated June 16, 2011, the Committee recommended renewal of the Hope Creek Generating Station operating license. The NRC staff appreciates the Committees thorough review of the plants license renewal application and the associated final safety evaluation report. In particular, the Committees review of aging management issues related to buried piping, reactor cavity leakage in the Mark I containment, and inaccessible power cables was especially helpful as the NRC staff finalized its evaluation.
The NRC staff recognizes the Committees commitment to safety and appreciates its continued support of the license renewal process.
