K5~j FJ rn CoJ The re-licensing of the South Texas Project Units 1 &2 should be halted for the safety of Texas residents and the environment.
The reactors would affect the Austin area by consuming vast quantities of our drinking water from the Colorado River and creating even more radioactive waste. There are safer, cleaner alternative ways to generate the same power available today and these should be used instead of nuclear energy.
Also, the risk of an accident, fire, or explosions could increase with aging reactors. There is no adequate solution for radioactive waste, so it makes no sense to continue generating more.
