Browns Ferry Nuclear Plant," dated March 2, 2011 The Reference 2 letter discussed a finding that has preliminarily been determined to be Greater than Green. This finding involves the failure to establish adequate design control and perform adequate maintenance on the Unit 1 low pressure coolant injection outboard injection valve, 1-FCV-74-66, resulting in the valve being left in a significantly degraded condition and residual heat removal loop II unable to fulfill its safety function. The letter also requested that Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) attend a Regulatory Conference to present the TVA perspective on the facts and assumptions the NRC used to arrive at the finding and assess its significance; verbal printed on recycled paper
U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Page 2 March 14, 2011 and written responses to the letter were requested within 10 days, i.e., by March 12, 2011. Mr. Eugene Guthrie (NRC) was given a verbal response from TVA on March 8, 2011. This written response is provided on the next Federal working day following the due date pursuant to 10 CFR 50.4.
TVA agrees to attend a Regulatory Conference and requests that the conference be scheduled at a date and time to be determined during the period of April 1 to 15, 2011.
This will allow time for TVA's completion of documentation for laboratory testing and analysis relative to the significance of the finding, as summarized in the Reference 1 letter.
