Turkey Point EPU - PRA Licensing (APLA) Request for Additional Information -

Round 1

Tom, Below are requests for additional information (RAIs) regarding the Turkey Point Extended Power Uprate license amendment request. On March 14, 2011, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staff and Florida Power & Light Company (FPL) discussed draft RAIs to gain a common understanding of the questions. During the call, it was concluded that questions APLA-1.1 and APLA-1.4 should be deleted. The below RAIs reflect the questions discussed during the March 14, 2011, call. FPL agreed upon providing its responses within 30 days of the date of this email. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me.

APLA-1.1 Due to potentially reduced operating margins for various systems, describe changes to initiating event frequencies associated with loss of service water system, loss of component cooling water, and loss of instrument air from pre-EPU to post-EPU. If differences in these frequencies exists pre-EPU to post-EPU, describe the risk implications associated with these changes.

APLA-1.2 Due to increased decay heat during EPU operations, additional pressure operated relief valves (PORVs) maybe required for successful feed-and-bleed, especially if charging is unavailable. Describe changes in success criteria for successful feed-and-bleed pre-EPU and post-EPU, and the resulting risk implications.
