'7 General Comment I attended the Environmental Scoping Meeting in Bay City last week. I would like to thank the NRC for hosting the meeting to allow comments. It was a very interesting process and I enjoyed the wide variety of comments that were presented.

Upon arriving in Palacios about six years ago, I was surprised to learn that we had a nuclear power plant in our school district. Of course at that time, I had the same concerns that many others have about nuclear power and the safety of it, and am guilty of joking about glowing plants and mutated animals. However through the years, I have been very satisfied to witness the safety of the plant. I have two STP employees on the school board who talk frequently about safety precautions that are taken. I have personnally toured the plant during an outage and have also allowed students to tour the plant during outages. If I ever felt the safety of my students was at risk, I would never allow them to travel to the plant. Additionally, each year we are sent updated emergency procedures and contacts. I believe that the nuclear plant is an asset to our school district and community and do hope that the license is renewed.

If you should ever like to contact me or would like further information on my comments, do not hesitate to call or email me.

Sincerely, Vicki Adams Superintendent Palacios ISD vickia@palaciosisd.org
