Dear Administrative Judges:
Pursuant to the Boards Order of August 5, 2010 (Scheduling Initial Scheduling Conference),
this letter informs the Board of the NRC Staffs current milestone schedule for the Diablo Canyon Units 1 and 2 license renewal safety evaluation and environmental review. Please note that the staff will extend the schedule for the Diablo Canyon Units 1 and 2 license renewal environmental review. The planned date to issue the draft Supplemental Environmental Impact Statement (draft SEIS) will change from February to May of 2011. The public meeting to receive comments on the draft SEIS will now occur in June or July of 2011, and the final SEIS issuance date will be extended to January of 2012. This schedule modification is primarily a result of the time necessary for the Staff to complete its review of severe accident mitigation alternatives. The Division of License Renewal has balanced staff resources to manage several ongoing reviews that have major deliverables in late spring of 2011.
