FOLLOW UP: Turkey Point Endangered Species Take Hi Jason, To follow up on the email I sent you last week regarding Turkey Point, I spoke with Jodie Gless on Thursday (2/3). She is an FPL biologist that oversees both Turkey Point and St. Lucie. She indicated that the green turtle incidental take was at St. Lucie and not at Turkey Point. The notification was incorrectly attributed to Turkey Point. St. Lucies monthly endangered species take report (pending addition to ADMAS) confirmed that the 1/14/11 green sea turtle take was at St. Lucie and not at Turkey Point.

As a result, my branch will not need to initiate Section 7 consultation for Turkey Point as I had indicated in my previous email. I had requested TAC numbers associated with this activity, which I will cancel. Thanks, Briana Briana A. Turkey Point Endangered Species Take Hi Jason, As we discussed on the phone last week, I am sending you a brief summary of the call with Shelly Norton from National Marine Fisheries Service.

CALL

SUMMARY

Dennis Logan (also a biologist in the Division of License Renewal) and I spoke with Shelly this morning (1/31) to discuss the 1/14/11 notification of a green sea turtle take (ML110200708) at Turkey Point. The notification stated that the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission had been notified of the incident, but did not mention NMFS, which oversees aquatic endangered species activities under the Endangered Species Act.

Shelly was not aware of the green turtle take at Turkey Point. She confirmed that we would need to officially open Section 7 consultation as a result of the take and noted that the initiation letter should be addressed to David Bernhart, Assistant Regional Administrator for Protected Resources.

OUTCOME OF CALL:

My branch will be initiating formal Section 7 consultation with the NMFS regarding the take at Turkey Point. I will be opening a TAC for this activity, and will make sure to CC you on all outgoing correspondence.

Please dont hesitate to call with any questions. My extension is 1042. Thanks!
