SEISMIC INSTRUMENTATION SYSTEM OPERATION 1.0 PURPOSE This procedure outlines the steps necessary for startup, operation and shutdown of the Seismic Instrumentation System.

2.0 PREREQUISITES 3.0 2.1 Placing the Seismic InstrumentationSystem in Service I&C has identified and loaded a cassette into SMA-3 recorder, AND*has performed a record calibration in accordance with its Departmental procedures.

2.2 Responding to a Seismic Event Alarm None 2.3 Removing the Seismic Instrumentation System from Service None PRECAUTIONS AND LIMITATIONS 3.1 Precautions 3.2 3,1.1 DO NOT handle OR operate any Seismic Monitoring Equipment while a seismic event is in progress as indicated by the Tape Machines running and/or the SMA-3 EVENT ALARM light is illuminated, 3.1.2 Alarms on the Seismic Response Spectrum Annunciator should be reset as soon as possible. NOT resetting the alanns will cause the power supply to fail in a short period of time (approximately 2 hours2.314815e-5 days
5.555556e-4 hours
3.306878e-6 weeks
7.61e-7 months
).

Limitations All Seismic M9nitoring Equipment operates automatically in response to a seismic event.

3.3 Interlocks 3.3.1 The Seismic Trigger is actuated by a seismic event.

WITH a magnitude of 0.01 gs (approximately 4.0 Richter)

OR more. The Seismic Trigger will perform the following:

 • Change the SMA-3 Event Indicator (flag) from BLACK to WHITE.

Tum the Strong Motion Accelerograph Tape Machines ON.

3.3.2 The amber SMA-3 EVENT ALARM light will only be Illuminated IF the 'SMA~3 Tape Machines are running.

. Once actuated by the Seisjnic Trigger, the Tape Machines will continue to run for 10 sec after the seismic event intensity falls below 0.01 gs.

3.3.3 The amber ALARM light on the Seismic Switch Power Supply drawer is: actuated by the Seismic Switch IF the magnitude of the seismic event exceeds 0.1 gs (about 5.S Richter). __
