Gentlemen:
Pursuant to 10 CFR 26.719, "Reporting Requirements," part (c), "Drug and Alcohol Testing Errors," Wolf Creek Nuclear Operating Corporation (WCNOC) is submitting the following report of an investigation into a testing error associated with the WCNOC Fitness for Duty (FFD)
Program.
On September 24, 2010, WCNOC's Medical Review Officer (MRO) requested a retest of a sample taken on September 20, 2010. When the contracted Health and Human Services (HHS) certified laboratory submitted the sample to a second HHS certified laboratory for this retest the sample was rejected because there was no specimen identifier on the security seal.
The contracted HHS laboratory has reviewed this incident and their report, Enclosure 1, dated October 15 and including an October 19, 2010 addendum, documents their review and corrective actions.
The enclosure to this letter contains personally identifiable information and should be withheld from public disclosure in accordance with 10 CFR 2.390(a)(6).
