Request for Phone Discussion and/or Meeting on Indian Point License Renewal Timeline
Dear Mr. Dean:
On behalf of the New York Affordable Reliable Electricity Alliance (New York AREA); a 501 (c) (6) non-profit organization comprised of more than 150 labor and business organizations, community leaders, and independent energy experts, I am pleased to offer our warmest wishes as you begin your tenure as Region One Administrator for the Nuclear Regulatory Commission.
As you may know, New York AREA firmly supports the ongoing operations of the Indian Point Energy Center, and the application by Entergy for license renewal. The facility's power is a critical component of New York's electricity infrastructure, while also vital for keeping existing and creating future jobs, keeping electricity costs competitive, and meeting stringent air quality standards. Independent studies have demonstrated the impact of the facility on metropolitan region, with closure leading to price hikes of 150%,
the elimination of 11,000 jobs, and a loss of more than $1 billion to the local economy.
With Indian Point's license renewal timeline still in question and anti-nuclear organizations opposed to Indian Point still receiving significant attention from both the media and the NRC, we would appreciate the opportunity to facilitate a conference call or in-person meeting with you either in New York, or in your King of Prussia offices.
This would be for the dual purposes of a formal introduction, in addition to receiving an update on Indian Point's license renewal application.
Thank you for your attention to this matter. I look forward to your response.
E*~
