LUCIE NUCLEAR POWER PLANT The Nuclear Regulatory Commission staff has scheduled a public meeting in Jensen Beach, Fla., for Thursday, Nov. 4 to discuss corrective actions associated with a previously issued yellow inspection finding at the St. Lucie nuclear power plant, which is located in Jensen Beach, east of Port St. Lucie, and operated by Florida Power and Light Co.

The meeting is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m. (EDT) in the St. Lucie Nuclear Plant Energy Encounter Facility on Hutchinson Island, 6501 S A1A, Jensen Beach.

The meeting is called a regulatory performance meeting and the discussion will focus on the companys corrective actions associated with the yellow inspection finding, which dealt with the failure to identify and correct the source of air leaking into the component cooling water system. The component cooling water system removes heat from pumps and other plant components.

Members of the public may attend the meeting and NRC officials will be available to answer questions after the discussion.

Under the NRC reactor oversight process, inspection findings are evaluated using a significance determination process and assigned a color indicating its safety significance.

Findings with very low safety significance are labeled "green." "White" findings have low to moderate safety significance, "yellow" findings have substantial safety significance, and "red" findings have high safety significance. Inspection findings with higher safety significance than green prompt the NRC to increase oversight and inspection.
