WLF CREEK NUCLEAR OPERATING CORPORATION Richard D. Flannigan Manager Regulatory Affairs October 12, 2010 RA 10-0087 U. S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission ATTN: Document Control Desk Washington, DC 20555
Subject:
Docket No. 50-482: Changes to Schedule for Proposed Transfer of a Reactor Vessel Head Forging from Mitsui & Co. Plant Systems, Ltd.
through AREVA NP to Wolf Creek Nuclear Operating Corporation.-
Reference:
Letter dated July 22, 2010, from S.A. Whaley, USNRC, to M.S.
Schnakenberg, WCNOC.
Gentlemen:
In accordance with the reference concerning transfer of a reactor vessel head forging from Japan Steel Works, Ltd. and Mitsui & Co. Plant Systems, Ltd., Wolf Creek Nuclear Operating Corporation (WCNOC) acknowledges responsibility for complying with the peaceful use commitments identified in the reference.
Additionally, WCNOC requests that the Nuclear Regulatory Commission inform the Department of State about changes to the schedule for transfer of the reactor vessel head forging as described below.
The current schedule specifies that the reactor vessel head forging will be manufactured by early December 2010 and transferred to AREVA's facility in Chalon, France soon after it is manufactured. The reactor vessel head forging will be placed in storage at this facility during February 2011.
WCNOC has not determined the schedule for incorporating the reactor vessel head forging into a completed replacement reactor vessel closure head or determined the schedule for transferring the completed replacement reactor vessel closure head from AREVA's facility to Wolf Creek Generating Station. WCNOC expects to store the reactor vessel head forging with AREVA for several years.
This letter contains no commitments.
