RESPONSE TO THE ADVISORY COMMITTEE ON REACTOR SAFEGUARDS REPORT ON THE SAFETY ASPECTS OF THE LICENSE RENEWAL APPLICATION FOR THE COOPER NUCLEAR STATION
Dear Dr. Abdel-Khalik:
During the 576th meeting of the Advisory Committee on Reactor Safeguards (Committee) held on October 7-9, 2010, the Committee completed its review of the license renewal application for the Cooper Nuclear Station and the associated final safety evaluation report prepared by the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC). In the Committees final report, dated October 26, 2010, the Committee recommends renewal of Cooper Nuclear Station operating license. The NRC staff appreciates the Committees thorough review of the plants license renewal application and the associated final safety evaluation report. In particular, the Committees review of aging management programs for medium voltage cables, small bore piping systems, buried piping, and torus pitting corrosion were particularly helpful as the NRC staff finalized its evaluation.
The NRC staff recognizes the Committees commitment to safety and appreciates its continued support of the license renewal process.
