I am writing to let you know that the environmental and SAMA RAI letter will be issued today. I also want to document the changes I made to question 2 under Archaeological and Historic Resources in response to your stated concern that the initial question 2 (regarding rates of coastal erosion) appeared to request calculations of coastal erosion rates rather than requesting information about any effects the discharge may have on coastal erosion. As I conveyed to you, the NRC staffs question was triggered by concerns raised by CA SHPO staff. The revised question is as follows:
Has Pacific Gas & Electric (PG&E) observed any change in the rate of coastal erosion in the Diablo Canyon Power Plant (DCPP) discharge cove or elsewhere on the property since operation of the DCPP cooling system started? If so, please explain the direction and magnitude of the changes in coastal erosion rates. Does PG&E monitor for erosion of archaeological sites, and especially for erosion of human burials?
