OF TELEPHONE CONFERENCE CALL HELD ON AUGUST 3, 2010, BETWEEN THE U.S. NUCLEAR REGULATORY COMMISSION AND PACIFIC GAS AND ELECTRIC COMPANY CONCERNING DRAFT REQUEST FOR ADDITIONAL INFORMATION RELATED TO THE DIABLO CANYON NUCLEAR POWER PLANT, UNITS 1 AND 2, LICENSE RENEWAL APPLICATION SCOPING AND SCREENING AND AGING MANAGEMENT REVIEW The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC or the staff) and representatives of Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E) held a telephone conference call on August 3,2010, to obtain clarification on the staff's draft request for additional information (D-RAI) regarding the Diablo Canyon Nuclear Power Plant license renewal application.
Bye-mail dated July 22,2010, the staff sent D-RAls to PG&E regarding scoping and screening and aging management review. PG&E reviewed the information contained therein, and requested a telephone conference call. The telephone conference call was useful in clarifying the intent of the staffs D-RAls. Enclosure 2 provides discussions on D-RAls for which the applicant requested clarification. No changes to other D-RAls were necessary as a result of this telephone conference call. Formal RAls will be issued by a separate letter. provides a listing of the participants.

Diablo Canyon Nuclear Power Plant, Units 1 and 2 License Renewal Application Draft Request for Additional Information Scoping and Screening/Aging Management Review D-RAI 2.3.3.4-01 On license renewal application (LRA) drawings LR-DCPP-14-106714-03 and LR-DCPP-14 107714-03, the applicant depicts the label "stuffing box" at locations 31-C, 33-C, and 35-C, but the components are not shown. On tile LRA aging management review Table 2.3.3-4 for the component cooling water system, the "stuffing box" component is not listed. The staff requests that the applicant justify the exclusion of the stuffing box from LRA Table 2.3.3-4.
Discussion: Based on a discussion with the applicant, it was determined that the stuffing box for the pumps were within the scope of license renewal and covered within the pump component type in LRA Table 2.3.3-4. Therefore, this question is withdrawn and will not be sent as a formal request for additional information.
