Subject:

FW: Potentially more tritium discovered at Peach Bottom Neil, Diane, Nancy, Doug, FYI on some indications of tritium at PB. We'll have more info tomorrow. I've already engaged DRS.

Important points to note right now:

0 One test location had 122, 000 pCi/L tritium. A confirmatory sample has not been analyzed yet.

Expect result tomorrow.

0 No indications that there is an unmonitored release at this point. Outfall locations are LDA but any tritium would be very diluted at the outfall.

  • PB found this as part of an initiative they have been undertaking for the last year. This started when PB found -4000 pCi/I in a well adjacent to the inner screen house.
  • PA and MD DEP are being given courtesy notifications by PB on this issue.

I have a site map with a more precise location of the wells. More to follow tomorrow.

-JTo: Krohn, Paul; Bower, Fred; Nimitz, Ronald; White, John S'ubject: Potentially more tritium discovered at Peach Bottom Pau et al, Bill Maguire (Site VP) just stopped by and informed me of some preliminary results for 3 Geo-probes that were recently dug at Peach Bottom. IV infotrtiontin fts record was deleted In amo Ith Frdom of inlomi wire AOL PA 3oo

For Geo-probe #2 the results were Less than Detectable (LTD)

For Geo-probe #3 the results were 122,748 picoCuries of Tritium For Geo-probe #4 the results were 22,*100 pico Curies of Tritium Note - these are just preliminary results and they have sent the samples out for confirmatory samples. Bill did indicate that he plans to give Rich Janati and the State of Maryland a,*cll just to alert them-of the potential results.

He expects tolhave the confirmatory results for Geo-probe #4 back either tonight or tomorrow. and will make the official notifications at that time. He also indicated: that they plan to take samples of the Susquehanna, River to ensurethtat they are not seeing anything there. Bill indicated that they (PB) still feel that this could be water from the Unit 3 CST.

I have .attached a picture showing where the samples were taken.
