- NON EMERGENCY "On December 28th, 2009, one green sea turtle and one loggerhead sea turtle were retrieved from the plant's intake canal. The green sea turtle had deep fresh scrapes on its head that are causal to plant operations. The loggerhead sea turtle has injuries that are non causal from plant operations due to a shark attack. The turtles will be sent to a rehabilitation facility for recovery.
Per the plant's turtle permit, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWCC) was notified at 0958 EST. This non-emergency notification is being made pursuant to 10 CFR 50.72(b)(2)(xi) due to the notification of the FWCC."
The licensee notified the NRC Resident Inspector. Both units were operating at 100% rated thermal power at the time of the report.
Notified R2DO (Franke), and NRR Endangered Species Group via email.
