Subject:
source term discussion Alan Per our discussion on clarifying our intent of the discussion of the source term considerations in the license amendment..
The RBS core source term was evaluated to support the transition to 24 month fuel cycles. The new source term was then applied to the USAR Chapter 15 Accident Analysis dose calculations. The resulting change in main control room, exclusion area boundary, and low population zone doses for each of the accident scenarios was less than 10% of the margin to the 10CFR50.67 acceptance criteria, which is within the licensee-controlled margin. As a result, these changes are being made using the 10CFR50.59 process vice 10CFR50.90 and the license amendment process.
Therefore, the dose changes resulting from the transition to 24-month fuel cycles does not require NRC review or approval under License Amendment Request 2009-05. The change from CINDER to the ORIGN01P computer code was previously performed under the 50.59 process for the Cycle 16 core reload.
