RE: NRC-NAS cancer study Hi Heather, I am aware of the NRC-NAS cancer study but do not know what impact the results of the study may have on the renewal applications which have been completed or are pending. I will look into this and will get back to you with what I find.

NRC-NAS cancer study Hi Elaine As you may be aware, On April 7, the NRC announced that they had asked the National Academy of Sciences to perform a state-of-the-art study on cancer risk for populations around nuclear power plants. As you may also know, we raised cancer concerns in our EIS scooping comments. According to the EIS scoping summary, health effect are considered to be a Category 1 issue and are not re-evaluated in the SEIS unless new and significant information is identified. We believe that the study request is new and very significant information.
Our question is how this study request will be factored into pending license renewal applications. Will any pending or just-completed application be re-evaluated once the study is complete? Is does not seem fair that an SEIS would be finalized by the NRC in light of the fact that the results of this study could possibly change the NRC's conclusions (in the SEIS).
We would appreciate the opportunity to discuss this matter further and hear how the NRC plans to move forward.
2 Please feel free to contact me at (651) 329-5796 with any questions.
Best regards, Heather Westra
