PURPOSE:
To discuss groundwater characterization and site decommissioning plans for the Fermi-1 reactor.
ATTENDEES:
SEE ATTACHED LIST BACKGROUND:
The Fermi-1 reactor is located at Lagoona Beach, Frenchtown Township, Michigan. The reactor was shutdown in 1972. DTE Energy has been stabilizing the facility by passivating residual sodium and disposing of plant components and systems. DTE Energy has submitted a license termination plan, and plans to terminate their license in 2012.
DISCUSSION:
The meeting was publicly noticed on March 23, 2010, by posting on the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission web site. The meeting began at approximately 11:00 a.m. EST. The following issues were discussed during the meeting:
- 1.
NRC (Ted Smith) made introductions and an opening statement, including opportunity to provide meeting feedback.
- 2.
DTE Energy (Lynne Goodman) presented the status of the Fermi-1 site groundwater conceptual model, well and sump monitoring locations and recent sampling results.
ACTION ITEMS:
NRC agreed to coordinate a call to discuss embedded piping in the next few weeks.
DTE agreed to continue working on a revised groundwater characterization report.
