RESPONSE TO THE FEDERAL REGISTER NOTICE (74 FR 49043)
SOLICITATION OF PUBLIC COMMENTS ON THE IMPLEMENTATION OF THE REACTOR OVERSIGHT PROCESS
Dear Mr. Lang:
Thank you for providing comments and participating in the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commissions (NRCs) 2009 Reactor Oversight Process (ROP) annual self-assessment. The self-assessment is used to determine whether the ROP was effective in meeting program goals and achieving its intended outcomes, as well as to identify areas needing improvement.
Identified areas for improvement are then evaluated and incorporated, if appropriate, into the key ROP program areas of performance indicators, inspection, significance determination process, and assessment. The self-assessment results are documented in SECY-10-0042, Reactor Oversight Process Self-Assessment for Calendar Year 2009, (ADAMS Accession Number ML100550440), which will be discussed with the Commission during a public meeting on May 27, 2010.
To more directly address and respond to stakeholder comments, the NRC staff consolidated the comments and NRC staffs responses in the enclosed document, Consolidated Response to the 2009 Reactor Oversight Process External Survey, (ML101020027), which will be publicly available on the ROP Web page. The ROP self-assessment results and the annual ROP performance metric report (ML100540037) will also be publicly available on the ROP Web page and are enclosed for your convenience.
The staff appreciates your participation in this effort. Questions and comments should be directed to Audrey Klett at (301) 415-0489.
Sincerely,
/RA/
