Reactor Decommissioning Branch Decommissioning and Uranium Recovery Licensing Directorate Division of Waste Management and Environmental Protection Office of Federal and State Materials and Environmental Management Programs DATE: April 08, 2010 TIME: 10:00 am - 12:00 pm PLACE: U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Two White Flint North 11545 Rockville Pike Rockville, MD 20850 PURPOSE: To discuss alternative long-term options to the decommissioning plan provided in the Nuclear Ship Savannah (NSS) Post Shutdown Decommissioning Activities Report (PSDAR), Revision 1, dated December 11, 2008 (ML083500100).
DISCUSSION: The Maritime Administration (MARAD) submitted its PSDAR for the NSS on December 11, 2008. The PSDAR describes the approach MARAD plans to use to decommission the NSS for eventual license termination.
The NSS is a National Historic Landmark. During the meeting MARAD and NRC discussed possible options for decommissioning the NSS in accordance with NRC requirements while at the same time meeting the requirements of the National Historic preservation Act. The meeting was then opened up for public questions and comments.
