Briefer notes only: not reouired to be distributed to ET Team Outside of Scope 2.) (Update) TMI - RADIATION RELEASE IN CONTAINMENT ASSOCIATED WITH STEAM GENERATOR REMOVAL Licensee concluded that apparent cause of event was due to a change in containment ventilation lineup in conjunction with several openings in RCS piping penetrations.
3
Licensee has secured containment purge supply fans; only containment purge exhaust fans are in operation, at this time. This ventilation line-up ensures containment is maintained at a negative pressure.
Licensee experienced alarming conditions on 3 airborne radiation monitors in containment, during the night. However, these were not due to any associated release of radiation. Two (2) alarms were due to power cycling to the airborne radiation monitor, one (1) alarm was due to "shine" from a vacuum cleaner.
NRC Chairman briefed the Governor of Pennsylvania and several members of Congress on the event.
A Region 1 HP inspector remains on-site closely following Licensee's response. (send update to -TRGs for Containment: Jerome Betfle, Emergency Preparedness; Jeffrey Temple, Health Physics: Steven Garry, Human Performance: Michael Boggi, Dose Assessment:
