SUBJECT:
THE U.S. NUCLEAR REGULATORY COMMISSIONS REGULATORY GUIDE UPDATE PROGRAM: REGULATORY GUIDES PUBLISHED FOR PUBLIC COMMENT
Dear Ms. Schlueter:
As you already know, the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) is reviewing and prioritizing updates to its regulatory guides (RGs) based on anticipated need and to ensure complete, accurate, and current guidance. (Note: please refer to the November 17, 2008, letter from Daniel H. Dorman to Nuclear Energy Institute, on the NRC plans to review and update its RGs through the Regulatory Guide Update Program, Agencywide Documents Access and Management System accession number ML083110762).
In order to keep our stakeholders better informed of the progress of the NRCs work in this area, the Nuclear Material Safety and Safeguards (NMSS) Division of Fuel Cycle Safety and Safeguards (FCSS) and Division of Spent Fuel Storage and Transportation (SFST) have created three additional sites within the NRCs website. These websites are routinely updated to ensure we provide our stakeholders with the most current information on those RGs that have been, or that will be, published within the last, and the next, six months. These websites are as follows:
For RGs being reviewed/developed by FCSS please visit:
http://www.nrc.gov/materials/fuel-cycle-fac/regs-guides-comm/reg-guides-status.html For RGs being reviewed/developed by SFST please visit:
9 Spent fuel storage:
http://www.nrc.gov/waste/spent-fuel-storage/regs-guides-comm/status-spent-fuel-rg.html 9 Spent fuel transportation:
http://www.nrc.gov/materials/transportation/regs-guides-comm/status-transportion-rg.html The dates provided for the RGs to be published are considered tentative and are not binding on the Commission or its staff. This information is intended to provide stakeholders an early notice and opportunity to participate in the NRC Regulatory Guide Update Program.
J. Schlueter Please visit our RGs website at http://www.nrc.gov/reading-rm/doc-collections/reg-guides/#reg, where you can find additional, valuable information about our RGs. If you still need information about a specific RG being reviewed and updated by our Divisions you may also contact the appropriate technical staff identified on the website.
If you have any questions regarding this communication please contact Mr. Osiris Siurano at (301) 492-3117, or by e-mail, Osiris.Siurano-Perez@nrc.gov.
Sincerely,
/RA/
