UNITED STATES NUCLEAR REGULATORY COMMISSION REGION II SAM NUNN ATLANTA FEDERAL CENTER 61 FORSYTH STREET, SW, SUITE 23T85 ATLANTA, GEORGIA 30303-8931 November 6, 2009 Mr. Preston D. Swafford Chief Nuclear Officer and Executive Vice President Tennessee Valley Authority 3R Lookout Place 1101 Market Street Chattanooga, TN 37402-2801

SUBJECT:

CONFIRMATION OF REQUESTED INITIAL OPERATOR LICENSE EXAMINATIONS FOR SEQUOYAH NUCLEAR PLANT

Dear Mr. Swafford:

In a letter dated August 17, 2009, your staff responded to Regulatory Issue Summary 2009-011 and requested we schedule initial license operator examinations for Sequoyah Nuclear Plant.

Based on your letter and following discussions with your staff, we have scheduled the requested examinations as follows:

Plant / 2010 2011 Station Date Applicants Date Applicants Sequoyah 2/16 11 8/22 18 8/23 18 On-site validation of the examinations is typically scheduled to occur approximately three weeks before each examination. If you have a need to change the dates of your scheduled exams from those listed above, please inform us in writing of your request and the reason for the change.

Due to the large number of examinations scheduled to be administered at Region II sites, requests to change examination dates will be considered on a case-by-case basis. We will confirm any change in examination schedule with a follow-up letter.

We understand that your staff will develop the proposed examinations. For examinations that have greater than nine applicants, each examination is scheduled for a minimum of two weeks.

If the number of applicants is reduced to less than ten (10) for any examination, please inform us as this will impact the examination schedule.

A supplementary letter will be sent to each stations training manager approximately 120 days prior to the initial examination. The letter will provide the training manager with the chief examiner=s name, an outline of examination security expectations, a list of the materials required by the NRC to conduct the examination, and it will reconfirm the examination dates and the number of candidates you have in the training program. If you have any questions concerning this information, please contact Mr. Malcolm Widmann, Chief, Operations Branch, at 404-562-4550.

TVA 2 In accordance with 10 CFR 2.390 of the NRC's "Rules of Practice," a copy of this letter will be available electronically for public inspection in the NRC Public Document Room or from the Publicly Available Records (PARS) component of NRC's Agencywide Documents Access and Management System (ADAMS). ADAMS is accessible from the Electronic Reading Room page of the NRC=s public Web site at http://www.nrc.gov/reading-rm/adams.html.

Sincerely,

/RA/
