SUBJECT:
Donald C. Cook Nuclear Plant Unit 1 Docket No. 50-315 Withdrawal of Relief Request for Use of Weld Inlays as an Alternative Repair Technique for Reactor Vessel Safe End-to-Primary Nozzle Alloy 82/182 Welds (ISIR-28)
Reference:
Letter from Joseph N. Jensen, Indiana Michigan Power Company, to Nuclear Regulatory Commission Document Control Desk, "Use of Weld Inlays as an Alternative Repair Technique for Reactor Vessel Safe End-to-Primary Nozzle Alloy 82/182 Welds,"
AEP-NRC-2008-25, dated October 7,
2008 (ML083010238).
Dear Sir or Madam:
The referenced letter transmitted a relief request by Indiana Michigan Power Company (I&M) for use of weld inlays as an alternative repair technique for reactor vessel safe end-to-primary nozzle Alloy 82/182 dissimilar metal welds at Donald C. Cook Nuclear Plant.Unit 1.
Subsequently, a schedule change in the development of required weld inlay equipment has occurred that precludes use of the weld inlays as an alternative repair technique during the spring 2010 Unit 1 refueling outage. I&M is therefore withdrawing the relief request as it is no longer needed at this time.
There are no new or revised commitments in this letter.
Additionally, Nuclear Regulatory Commission commitments made in support of the relief request are canceled. Should you have any questions, please contact Mr. James M. Petro, Jr., Regulatory Affairs Manager, at (269) 466-2489.
Sincerely, Raymond A. Hruby, Jr.
