Tennessee Valley Authority, 1101 Market Street, Chattanooga, Tennessee 37402-2801 August 5, 2009 10 CFR 54.7 US Nuclear Regulatory Commission ATTN: Document Control Desk Washington, DC 20555-0001 Sequoyah Nuclear Plant, Units 1 and 2 Facility Operating License Nos. DPR-77 and DPR-79 NRC Docket Nos. 50-327 and 50-328

Subject:

Expected Submittal Dates For Sequoyah Nuclear Plant License Renewal Applications

References:

1. Letter from TVA to NRC dated June 21, 2004, "Deferral of TVA's Expected Submittal Date for Sequoyah Nuclear Plant (SQN)

License Renewal Application"

2. NRC Regulatory Issue Summary 2009-06, "Importance of Giving NRC Advance Notice of Intent to Pursue License Renewal," dated June 15, 2009 The purpose of this letter is to notify NRC of the Tennessee Valley Authority's (TVA's) intent to submit the license renewal applications for both Sequoyah Nuclear Plant units in the second calendar quarter of 2013. The Sequoyah Nuclear Plant Unit 1 and Unit 2 licenses will expire in 2020 and 2021, respectively. This letter updates a letter dated June 21, 2004, Reference 1, that TVA provided NRC with a notice to defer its expected submittal date for Sequoyah Nuclear Plant license renewal application.

While this is a target date for the Sequoyah Nuclear Plant submittal, TVA notes that the final submittal date is contingent on a favorable decision by the TVA Board. This decision will be made once the required agency reviews are conducted in accordance with the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA). The TVA Board will consider this matter in mid-2011.

This voluntary submission is intended to assist the NRC in its budgeting and planning process, as requested by Regulatory Issue Summary 2009-06, Reference 2, and does not represent a formal commitment. TVA will keep the NRC informed of any changes to these targeted schedules.
