September 22, 2009 Duane Gore, Supervisor STP Nuclear Operating Company, MS N3010 South Texas Project Electric Generating Station P. O. Box 289 Wadsworth, Texas 77483
Dear Mr. Gore:
Per your request on June 30, 2009, enclosed is a CD copy of the separate effects codes PHCALC and TRENDS and the letter report titled, Calculation of pH and Iodine Volatility Under Reactor Accident Conditions. These codes were developed for the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) by Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) in the 1990s to analyze postulated severe reactor accidents. PHCALC was developed to calculate pH in the containment sump and includes the principal subroutines of the SOLGASMIX code. TRENDS was developed to calculate aqueous iodine chemistry in the containment. These codes are no longer supported by the NRC.
Sincerely, Jennifer L. Uhle, Director /RA/
Division of Systems Analysis Office of Nuclear Regulatory Research
